Description

Product Overview

Hongyang supplies a rear bumper replacement kit that converts the back of a 2024 Mustang to Dark Horse styling. The panel replaces the standard outer cover with the deeper Dark Horse profile: a lower diffuser section, exhaust cutouts framed as their own openings, and reflector housings set into the tail. Nothing forward of the doors changes, so the car keeps its original OEM front bumper and everything under the hood.

Because it is a rear-only kit, it suits work that a full conversion does not. A car with rear damage can be repaired straight into the Dark Horse look instead of going back to the standard panel. A car whose front was converted earlier can have the rear matched, so both ends finally agree. And a build being done in stages can start at the back and add the front next season without buying anything twice.

Construction is PP throughout, with the cover formed on the car's own mounting points. It arrives unpainted in its moulded finish, ready for your refinish team to prep and colour-match.

The finished car reads as a different model from behind, which is the point of a car rear bumper conversion. The diffuser drops lower than the standard part, the exhaust cutouts sit as framed openings rather than slots in a flat valance, and the reflectors sit in their own recesses instead of being let into the old panel. On a dark car the whole lower half becomes one continuous shape; on a light car the same lines read as a broad horizontal band that makes the tail look wider and lower than it is. Paint decides whether the result looks factory. A cover sprayed in the car's own colour and blended into the quarters is convincing; one sprayed to a guessed code is not. Spray a test card and check it against the car in daylight before the panel goes on. The gallery shows the finished rear on the car and a trunk-mounted wing fitted with it. The wing is a separate item, not part of the cover, so plan it as its own line if you want the complete tail.

Material & Build

  • Moulded in PP. The cover uses polypropylene, the material family behind most factory bumper covers, chosen for impact resistance at low weight rather than for a premium hand-feel.
  • Flex before fracture. A PP panel gives under a car-park knock and springs back, where a stiffer composite would crack and need replacing outright.
  • Mounting points formed in the tool. Bracket tabs, clip slots and screw bosses are moulded into the cover, so the factory fasteners and trim clips have something to seat into.
  • Separate lower diffuser. The diffuser is its own moulding, which keeps a kerb strike or a scuff to one small part instead of a whole new bumper cover.
  • Reflector housings built in. The reflectors sit in dedicated recesses that follow the body lines rather than being surface-mounted on a flat face.
  • Ready for prep. Parts leave the tool with no colour on them and no heavy release agent to strip, so your painter starts from a known surface.
  • Even wall sections. The large flat areas are held to a consistent thickness, which is what stops the panel oil-canning once the fixings are tightened.
  • Trade-standard build. This is the shape car bumper manufacturers are judged on: the panel either seats on the original fixings or it does not.

Sensor and Cutout Fitment

  • Parking sensors. Rear PDC sensors need their own openings. Send your car's build details and a photo of the inside face of the old rear bumper when you order, and we will confirm the cutout layout the kit is supplied with.
  • Reversing camera. Cars with a rear camera, or a camera washer, need the matching opening and grommet. Confirm the position before the cover goes for paint, because correcting it afterwards means re-finishing the panel.
  • Reflectors. The side reflectors sit in moulded housings. Check that the units from your car suit the new recesses, or ask for a matching pair with the kit.
  • Tow hook access. The tow eye opening has to stay usable. If your market's car uses a different tow hook cover arrangement, say so at the quotation stage so the right version is picked.
  • Exhaust outlets. The cutouts are shaped for the Dark Horse outlet layout. If you are running an aftermarket exhaust with different tip spacing, measure the centres before ordering, because a cutout cannot be moved once it is moulded.
  • License plate recess. Plate sizes differ by market, and the recess and plate-lamp positions follow the market the cover is built for. Confirm the plate length you need.
  • Rear fog lamps. Some markets require a rear fog lamp in the bumper. Tell us if yours does, because that changes which cover you need.
  • Front lighting. Nothing here affects headlights, daytime running lights or front fog lamps; this kit stops at the rear.

Rear-Only or Full Conversion

Ordering the back on its own covers more rear bumper replacement jobs than buyers expect. If the front is untouched and the owner wants it that way, the rear alone gives the tail the Dark Horse profile for a fraction of a full conversion. If the car has taken rear damage and the insurance work is already paying for a new panel, the difference between a standard cover and this one is small. If the front was converted last season, matching the rear now finishes the car without buying anything twice.

Going the other way has a cost. A car with a Dark Horse rear and a standard nose looks unfinished, so if the budget allows, plan both ends in the same season. We build the matching front parts and custom front bumper kits for the 2024 car, and the two-end kit for buyers who want it all in one order.

A car still wearing its OEM front bumper shows the mismatch most clearly in photographs, where the roofline and the tail are read together. That is usually what turns a staged build into a full one.

For distributors the question is stocking. A rear-only kit covers accident repair; the full kit covers builds. Trade buyers often carry both and let the workshop decide.

- The standard 2024 rear. The factory bumper and lower valance as they leave the car, photographed before anything is unbolted. This is the panel the kit replaces. - A damaged rear corner. A cracked panel, a torn lower section, or clips that no longer hold the rear bumper tight against the quarter. This is the most common route into a rear bumper replacement. - A half-finished conversion. The front already carries Dark Horse parts while the tail is still standard, so the car reads as two different models from two different angles. - A staged build. The owner wants the back done now and the front booked for later, so the order has to stand on its own. - A car going through paint. The rear is already off the vehicle, which is the cheapest moment to fit a different profile rather than refit the original panel. - A wholesale decision. A distributor adding a rear-only option to a range that already carries front kits and full conversions, weighing car bumper manufacturers on fitment risk rather than price alone.

Installation Steps

  1. Strip the old panel. Remove the arch trims where the fixings pass through, unclip the old rear bumper along both quarters, disconnect the sensor and lamp harnesses, then lift it away with a second pair of hands.
  2. Test-fit before paint. Hang the new cover on a few fasteners, check the gap along each quarter and the shut line at the trunk, and confirm the exhaust cutouts clear the outlets.
  3. Trial-fit the trim. Seat the reflectors, sensor grommets and plate recess while the cover is still unpainted, so nothing has to be opened up or trimmed later.
  4. Prep and paint. Clean and scuff the panel, apply a primer suited to PP, then base and clear in the car's colour. A flex additive in the clear lets the film move with the panel.
  5. Build it off the car. Fit the diffuser, brackets and reflectors on a stand, where a slipped tool cannot reach fresh paint.
  6. Final fit. Hang the cover, align the shut lines, tighten the fixings evenly, and reconnect the sensor and lamp harnesses before the road test.
  7. Check the electrics. Confirm the parking sensors read cleanly and the plate lamps work; a disturbed connector is the usual cause of a fault message after a bumper change.

Repair and Re-Order

A PP bumper cover is repairable in the right hands. Cracks along a mounting tab, splits at a fixing point and light deformation can usually be plastic-welded, reinforced and refinished, and a good shop will do that rather than replace a panel over a small split. Deep tears across a large flat face, or damage that has pulled the mounting points out of position, are the cases where a car rear bumper is better replaced than repaired, because the shape has to be right where it bolts to the body.

When a cover does need replacing, the individual parts matter. Because the diffuser, reflector housings and mounting brackets are separate pieces, a scuffed lower section or a cracked bracket does not mean buying a complete cover again. Photograph the damaged section and quote only what you need. It is also how car bumper manufacturers keep a repair affordable: you replace the scuffed part, not the whole panel.

Keep the paint record with the vehicle file: the colour code, the primer and clear used, and the date of the spray-out. Two years later, a repair on the same panel will match first time instead of needing a blend across the quarters.

If you also stock custom front bumper kits, holding one spare of each means a repair can be quoted and booked without waiting on a reorder. Whether that makes sense for you depends on how many 2024 Mustangs come through your workshop, so treat it as a stocking question rather than a rule.

Ordering and Delivery

  • Carton protection. A rear bumper cover is a large, thin-walled moulding, so it ships in a shaped carton with face and edge protection rather than a plain box. The aim is simple: the panel arrives straight.
  • Pallet loading. For container orders the cartons are palletised and stood on edge, not crushed under heavy freight. Ask us for the current pallet pattern before you plan rack space.
  • Units per box and per pallet. Pack quantities change with cover size and destination, so confirm the figure for your order rather than planning on an assumption.
  • Damage in transit. Inspect the carton before signing, photograph any crush or puncture, and report it with the delivery paperwork so a claim can be raised with the carrier.
  • Consolidation. Rear covers travel with custom front bumper kits, grilles and lamps from the same range, so a mixed order can go in one load. Send the full list and we will plan it.
  • Minimum quantity, lead time and payment. Production and shipping schedules move with season and route. Confirm the minimum order quantity, current lead time, payment terms and delivery point with your sales contact when you place the order.
  • Warranty and returns. Warranty cover, the handling of a damaged or faulty part, and return terms are set per order; ask your sales contact for the current terms in writing before you commit.
  • Samples. If you need to see a cover before committing to a stock order, ask your sales contact about sample availability and how it is arranged.

Technical Support & Model Matching

Getting the right part is mostly a matching job. If a part does not line up during fitting, we work through the cause with you and agree on a sensible fix — a missing component, a replacement, or the right alternative. Enquiries are handled from our office in Changzhou, Jiangsu, for buyers in the US, Canada, the UAE, Russia and beyond.

FAQ

Does this kit replace the whole rear bumper or only the lower section?

It replaces the whole outer panel. A rear bumper replacement with this kit means the old cover comes off and the new one goes on complete with its lower diffuser and reflector housings, with no cutting of the original panel or bonding a valance onto it. The absorber, reinforcement bar and inner brackets are not part of the kit, so check their condition while the cover is off.

Do the parking sensors and reversing camera carry over to the new cover?

They do, as long as the cover is ordered with the right openings. Sensor and camera positions follow the car's build, so a car with rear park assist and a camera needs a different layout from a base car. Send the build details and a photo of the inside face of the old bumper cover when you order, and we will confirm the layout before the part is packed.

Is the cover painted, and what does my painter need to know?

It arrives in its moulded finish with no colour on it. PP needs a primer or adhesion promoter made for the material before base coat, and a flex additive in the clear lets the film move with the panel instead of cracking at the edges. Spray a card first and check it against the car in daylight before the cover goes on.

Will this fit a 2023 or earlier Mustang?

No. The 2024 car's rear body lines and mounting points differ from the 2018–2023 generation, and a car rear bumper kit built for the earlier model will not line up. We build a separate rear kit for the earlier car, so take that one if you are working on a 2018–2023 Mustang.

Is the trunk-lid wing included?

No. The wing is a separate item and appears in the gallery because it finishes the Dark Horse tail. The cover, its lower diffuser, the reflector housings and the mounting brackets are what arrive in this kit.

Can I fit the rear first and add the front later?

Yes, and plenty of builds go that way. Nothing about the rear depends on the OEM front bumper being changed first. The one thing to plan is paint: if the two ends are sprayed months apart, use the same painter and keep the colour formula on file so the shade stays consistent.
